The Europe Sustainable Development Report 2023/24 represents the fifth edition of an independent quantitative evaluation regarding the progress made by the European Union (EU), its member states, and associated nations towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, in anticipation of the upcoming European elections and the United Nations Summit on the future, the report emphasizes ten critical actions that the newly appointed EU leadership should prioritize to enhance the implementation of SDGs both within Europe and on an international scale. The report asserts that in a world characterized by fragmentation and multipolarity, it is imperative for the EU to take decisive measures to avert potentially perilous social and environmental tipping points. Notably, the report was collaboratively developed in conjunction with civil society across Europe, drawing upon insights from workshops and public consultations conducted from April to November 2023. Among these, a hybrid workshop on April 4, 2023, organized by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), garnered participation from over 600 stakeholders, including representatives from the European Parliament, the European Commission, and various civil society organizations and scientific institutions. Additional workshops contributed to the insights and recommendations encapsulated in this edition, facilitating dialogues among scientists, experts, and practitioners from throughout Europe. The initial chapter of the report, along with a joint statement, benefitted from extensive consultations with relevant partners.
