Schwarz Digits and Deutsche Bahn AG have launched DataHub Europe, a platform designed to aggregate and curate industrial and media data for AI model training. The initiative aims to ensure data sovereignty and security while complying with legal regulations, enhancing operational efficiencies and fostering innovation in artificial intelligence across Europe.
Schwarz Digits, the IT and digital branch of the Schwarz Group, in collaboration with Deutsche Bahn AG, has announced the establishment of the DataHub Europe platform. This innovative platform aims to aggregate, prepare, and curate data from various industries and media landscapes for its partners. These high-quality datasets will be utilized for training artificial intelligence (AI) models within a secure infrastructure. The DataHub Europe is supported by various partners, including leading data contributors from the industrial and media sectors, such as the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and DvH Medien (Wirtschaftswoche and Handelsblatt). Clearly defined rules and mechanisms are in place to ensure that this sensitive data is used exclusively for its designated purposes, with the overarching goal of promoting “AI made in Europe” to signify both technological excellence and data sovereignty. Data partners maintain control over their information, assuring that it is handled securely and reliably. The platform also engages with numerous partners from technology, research, and academia, including Aleph Alpha, STACKIT, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), and the Technical University of Darmstadt / hessian.AI. These entities facilitate the training of models and the development and implementation of AI applications on this sovereign platform, enabling companies, public sector entities, and research institutions to leverage the value creation potential of the transparent data platform without compromising data protection or control. Legal frameworks such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the EU AI Act, and copyright laws are strictly adhered to, enhancing the rights of stakeholders and contributing to the digital sovereignty of Germany and Europe. The DataHub Europe positions itself as a pivotal player in European AI, coordinating the collaboration between its platform, AI, and data partners with clients from various sectors. It aims to function as a catalyst for the creation of sovereign, efficient, and trustworthy AI applications across the European language sphere. During the recent Digital Summit hosted by the German government, the involved companies presented one of the first applications: AuditGPT. This tool allows auditing staff to conduct their audits more efficiently, systematically, and swiftly. AuditGPT standardizes the creation of audit reports across various domains, relieving employees for other tasks while enhancing efficiency in a secure, data-protective environment. This solution is being piloted at Deutsche Bahn AG and within the Schwarz Group.
The announcement of DataHub Europe marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between leading tech companies and media sources to harness data for advancing artificial intelligence technologies, particularly within a European context. The initiative addresses the critical issues of data sovereignty and security, ensuring that sensitive data is properly managed while fostering innovation in AI applications that comply with stringent European regulations. By partnering with notable institutions, the platform aims to create a robust infrastructure for developing customized AI solutions, ultimately enhancing operational efficiency across multiple sectors.
The DataHub Europe initiative, established by Schwarz Digits and Deutsche Bahn AG, presents an innovative approach to AI development through secure, sovereign data management. It brings together diverse partners to promote high-quality data usage while maintaining compliance with existing legal frameworks. With tools like AuditGPT being developed, the platform is poised to significantly enhance operational efficiencies in various domains, positioning itself as a cornerstone of Europe’s AI strategy.
